ABOUT

thanasis2.jpg
Brussels-based filmmaker & visual storyteller.

Thanasis Tsimpinis is a Greek film director based in Brussels, with a background in Social Administration and Political Science, and over a decade of experience in visual storytelling, across social campaigns, cultural projects, and branded content. Their work explores queer identity and relational dynamics through a romantic, often dark and dreamlike lens, with features on The New Yorker, Nowness, and Vimeo Staff Pick.

Thanasis’ early award-winning films, DUST (2013) and FAWNS (2014), resonated both with festival audiences and online. In 2020, their short film “Escaping the fragile planet” reimagined the dystopian mood of its time and screened at over 50 festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand. In 2024, they graduated with high honors from the Master’s program at LUCA School of Arts with “Simon at the nightshop”, a reflection on quiet queer failures in daily life, currently streaming in Belgium on RTBF. Most recently, their short documentary “The Jezebels”, about the unapologetic Brussels-based queer pole dance collective, was selected for the Flemish Competition at Kortfilmfestival Leuven.

Over the past year, Thanasis has actively engaged with the Belgian artistic scene through collaborations with leading cultural hubs such as Wiels and Beursschouwburg, curated films for Bodies in Space, and continued their commitment to LGBTQIA+ advocacy through projects that challenge inequality and celebrate queer resilience. Their latest collaborative project is set to be presented at the upcoming Venice Biennale.
